i have a 8 year old outside kept cat.brought her in for the resent cold weather she seemed slow in her walking.she has been inside past few days eating okbut skinnier than normal.she eats and drinks.she wabbles when she walks in the room_looses balance-and wants to lay still all the time.she is very active usually.

Whenever a cat is eating well, but losing weight, I think of the possibility of hyperthyroidism. An overactive thyroid causes weight loss, weakness, and heart disease, but it is most common in cats older than 10 years. Other causes of weight loss and being wobbly would be parasites (usually but not always accompanied by diarrhea), anemia (low red blood cell count), infections like feline leukemia, or feline AIDS, injury, or pain. Keeping her inside, and a good quality cat food and fresh water always available for now is all I would recommend, and if she doesn't seem to get better, I would have her checked out by your veterinarian.
