Optional Information

minneapolis, Minnesota

Already Tried:
Everything.
Worked in Norway for 6 month of 2008.
Have figured out the fedral taxes, but my mn state taxes just want to take money from me.
Which is not fair since I did not earn the money here and I have already paid taxes to the Norwegian gov.

Answer

Dear XXXXX -

If you were a resident of Minnesota for all of 2008, you are required to pay tax on all of your income.

For federal purposes, your income tax can be reduced by the foreign tax credit.

Would I be a resident if I only stayed here in MN for 5 months and actually got hired by a norwegian employer and moved there? had a work visa for 7 months.march-september.

I live with my parents while in MN.

Rented an apartment in Norway and have a bank account there.

And it will be the same situation for this year.

Have worked here in MN(jan-feb)(Nov-des) part time.

So I'm wondering if I could be considerd a part year resident? and would that change the tax situation?

Thanks:)
