Question

Two days ago cat (4 yr old female, indoor cat) vomited foodx2, followed by liquidx2. Yesterday she seemed fine. Today hiding under bed, no interest in food or water. No evidence of pain when I palpate her belly. Take her to vet? When?

Optional Information

Age: 4; Female; Breed: tabby cat

Already Tried:
Tried putting treats in front of her. She ate 1 or 2 after 30 min. Tried dripping water from bottle into bowl as she likes running water. No interest. She doesn't seem to be in pain when I palpate her belly. One sight said look for lump in throat---negative. Took her from under bed and placed her in cat house. She changes positionx6 in 3hrs but doens't come down. Don't know how long it is safe to wait before taking her to vet. We haven't changed her food.

Hello:

I have some questions for you:

  1. Is it possible that she could have gotten into anything?
  2. Any plants in the house?
  3. How long has it been since she's eaten or had water?

Awaiting your reply.

No plants at all. Indoor cat, never goes out. She ate and drank yesterday after vomiting on Friday. She throws up her food occasionally but never smelly. She is not in the habit of getting into things. She will investigate people food very gingerly, but never licks or eats anything. Drinks water from the faucet primarily (drips constantly in bathroom).

Hello:

Is she urinating and defecating normally? Increased or decreased?

I become concerned when a cat doesn't eat for more than 24 hours. The body goes into starvation mode and the liver can get overloaded and result in a condition called hepatic lipidosis or fatty liver.

If she becomes dehydrated, her kidneys could be affected.

If she does not seem to be getting better by tomorrow morning I recommend getting her into your vet.

Let me know if you have further questions.

I am pretty sure she has not urinated or defecated at all today. There was a two-hour window of opportunity when I left the apartment this morning, but found her still under the bed when I returned. It is the hiding under the bed that had me concerned too. She now does not wish to leave the tree house. No children to leave stuff lying about. No meds in open containers. I will take her to vet in the AM. She has no interest in food or water.
