Question

my son is 27 and disabled. He has many problems and has been a client of regional center of orange county for years. He has received ssi benefits but through a special program has been working at Vons Grocery store part time for a year. I have claimed him as a dependent disabled for years, but have never done a seperate claim for him. This year I am considering doing one, but I want to know how much he receives from SSI is taxable?

Optional Information

Huntington Beach, California

I have tried in the past to do his taxes, but there was always a notice in to Turbo Tax Pop Up that said if someone has claimed you as a dependent then you can not claim yourself when filing taxes. Can I claim my son and still process his taxes seperately?

Accepted Answer

Hello XXXXXXXXXXXX and welcome to just answer.

What is the amount he earned in social security wages and what is the amount he earned in income? If the total of half his social security plus wages are under $25000 then he would not have any taxable income from SSI.
