Optional Information

Age: 4; Male; Breed: Long Haired

Already Tried:
wiping his paws with a cloth - but it's a struggle. I have to keep him out of the lounge until he's had a good wash - & that's also a bit of a struggle. He's a newly acquired stray, and has extremely hairy paws - which are like mops!
I believe clipping is an option, but reckon that'll also be a struggle (even if done professionally).

I'm aware that you don't want to trim the paws but I have to say that that will make it a lot easier for you. A vet or pet groomer can do this simply for you.
However, whether the paws are trimmed or not the best way is with water irrigation (washing). Ther best method is to get a bowl of luke warn water and one paw at a time gets dips in and agitated around to dislodge the mud. To restrain him you hold the scruff of his nech with one han. This is the flap of skin over the top of his neck close to his head. This is an effective way to restrain a cat...it has a pacifying influence on them...it doesn't hurt, You then have the other hand free to wash the feet.
Good luck, Peter
