Question

My Yorkie/Rat Terrier/Chi has dry flaky skin. What can I do about it. He has only one bath since we got him in August and I use wipes on him as not to dry him out even more.

Hello,

Your first step is to make sure that he is bathed at least once every month, while frequent bathing can dry out the skin not bathing the dog will prevent the dead skin from piling and causing flaky skin. This will help pull off the old dead hair. While to many baths will cause a issue you want a nice normal routine. I would suggest using medicated shampoo which can be purchased at your vets office or your local pet store. A good conditioner should be used as well.

Brushing everyday is important but make sure you are using a good brush that collects all the hair. Some brushes simply move the hair around.

I would also recommend using fish oil capsules in her diet to help strengthen his coat.. The oils will help his skin and prevent it from becoming so dry.
