Question

Hello. i have a power steering leak in my 99 grand am gt. 3.4l v6. it is in one of the lines. it is not the pressure hose. it comes out of the pump and goes down behind the exhaust manifold, over the control arm and makes a square before heading up along the rack. does anyone know if this is the return line and if so which one? thanks.

Hello XXX. X,You have two lines that come down from your power steering pump, one is the pressure line(usually threaded into the pump itself and might be a larger hose in diameter)and the other is the return hose(usually held onto pump resevoir with a hose or a squeeze clamp). It would have to be one of these lines you would have to determine this by examining them at the pump on how they connect to the pump and then follow them down to the leak to see which one it is.One line is a pressure line from the pump to the steering rack and the other is the return from the resevoir to the rack. The most common to leak where your leak is the pressure hose from the pump to the rack.If you need anything else let me know.

I know that it is not the pressure line. i have followed the line from the leak and it is on the other line out of the pump. every web site that sells return lines has 2 listed for my car but doesn't have pictures of either one. i am trying to determine which one it is.
