Question

Hello, My machine (Maytag MAV6300AWW) runs fine until it gets to the rinse cycle. instead of the agitator stopping and the rinse cycle starting it just keeps agitating. When it gets to the spin cycle it still will keep agitating unless I open the top cover then it will stop and start spinning when I close the cover. If I select "extra rinse" it will fill the tub and start agitating. When the timer clicks (I am assuming it is time to stop agitating and start spinning at this point)and if I then open and close the lid it will finish the cycle properly. If I do not open and close the lid at that point it will continue to agitate until the timer reaches off. I will find the tub full of water at this time. I have not been able to get the machine to stop agitating at the start of the rinse cycle by opening and closing the lid. Also, it seems to do the same thing whether I am using the colors or whites cycles. Any help would be appeciated. Thank you. Nick C.

Larry,

Thanks for your quick response to my question. My original thought was it was the timer but then the repairman at the local shop that I called to get a price said it may also be a faulty motor. I asked the same question to repairclinic.com and their response was a possible bad brake assembly or transmission bearing. I was hoping a third opinion would verify one or the other. However, if you are confident it is the timer I will go ahead and order one.
