Are you home now?

Can you look and see how the bill and the legs/feet look?

Any others affected? What are you feeding, and how long have you had him?

How are the feathers?

I'll be online for a little while if you want to check and get back with me.
Sincerely,

Hi I'm at home but going to work in 10 minutes.

Everything else on the hen is fine it's jusdt that one eye.

No other birds are affected.

The feathers are fine

I'm feeding them poultry mix grain, pellets and they have full range of my yard with plenty of fresh water and grass, and I keep their house spotlessly clean.

I've had her for about six months and thats how old she is too.

Without seeing it, I'm going to give my best shot.   Your differential diagnosis here would include cutaneous poxviral infection (very contagious, usually both eyes affected), "favus" (cutaneous dermatophytosis - ringworm - very likely, contagious), and fungi: (Aspergillus, Cryptococcus). In addition, check carefully for lice. If lice are noted, you can use Carbaryl powder or a pyrethrin shampoo. If possible, if you can see your vet, impression cytology is helpful to identify some of these pox diagnoses, IF you get a good impression taken from beneath the scabs, where the virus inclusions would be most likely. Pox viral inclusions (Bollinger bodies), are intracytoplasmic inclusions that are actually quite large and visible easily by light microscopy. A biopsy will also be quite rapid to the diagnosis. Fungal hyphae or organisms may be found, also. Dermatophytes (ringworm) would require culture or biopsy with special stains to identify. I would keep her isolated from the others until you have a diagnosis. Best luck! Dr. Devlin

Hi thanks for your help. I wil take her to see my vet and see what he says. She has had this for about 2 months now, but I've been very bad and not had it checked yet.

Thanks again

Julie
