Question

I have a 95 camery and about six months ago it starting having this problem with it would start fine in the morning but if I were to stop and trun the car off it would not trun over again. At first if i were to wait a few minutes and try it a few time it would trun over again. Then as time were on I was having to wait longer and longer for it to trun over. I have replaced the starter and had a delership run a disgonic test. The disgonic test came back with nothing wrong but the problem still continued. I have had many people tell me that it is the Nutrual Safty Switch. My question is am I heading the direction and if I am where would i locate the Nutrual Safty Switch in the car?

Hello and thank you for using just answer. The neutral safety switch is located on the front of the transmission. Usuallly of this component is acting up you will also have issues with the reverse lamps not operating or incorrect shift position displayed on the gauge cluster. Here is how the switch looks:

Thank you for the infomation on were the part is located. Is the switch hard to get to and what kind of tools are need to remove it? Any and all information you can give me. I have taken the car to a few show and being a girl they are trying to tell me that I need all kinds of new parts on the car. I just want to get it up and runing. Also with what i explained about what the car is doing do you think that I am correct with it being the Nurtrual Safty Switch. Thanks again.

The only way to tell if the switch is actually bad or not will require several electrical tests/inspections to be done. If you need to replace the switch it's not too hard unless your car has rust on it. Open the hood and look down in front, the switch is located on the driver side of the front engine bay area, the shoft cable is in front of the switch and can be removed with a 12mm wrench. The switch is then held in place by 2 10mm bolts to the transmission case and slides off the shift shaft.
