There are a number of different things that could be causing this to happen. The most common are:

Parasites
Infectious disease (bacteria or virus)
Dietary indiscretion (Dog ate something that he shouldn't have--like a small rodent or bird carcass, or something from the garbage)
Sudden change in dog food
Stress
More serious problems like liver, kidney disease, or inflammatory bowel disease

The first thing that I would do is change her diet to boiled white rice and boiled white meat skinless boneless chicken breast. Mix the two ingredients as 3 parts rice to 1 part chicken.

Once your dog's stool is normal (this should take up to 48 hours), you can start to gradually mix her regular food back in with the bland diet. You can convert your dog back onto her regular diet over the course of about 5 days.

I am attaching a client information handout that I use in my practice concerning diarrhea. I hope that you find it useful.

Something else that you might want to try is a supplement called Fast Balance. It is a probiotic supplement that is designed to repelenish the normal gut flora of the digestive system. You can get this on-line at pet pharmacies, or sometimes in well-stocked pet stores. I have used this on my own dogs, with very good success.

If your dog's diarrhea does not resolve within 48 hours of switching to the bland diet...then she should see the veterinarian for an examination.

I hope that this information is of help to you, and I wish you the best of luck with your dog. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
