Question

Hello, I am writing for my husband, a 41 year old male, who is having diarrhea and nausea. His stomach is distended, but not rigid, but quite distended. He is chilling and thirsty. We have been around nursing homes and hospitals recently with his father. I am wondering if this could be food poisoning or the flu. he is asleep upstairs right now.

Optional Information

Age: 41; Male, Virginia

Already Tried:
He keeps drinking water and ginger ale. He said he is freezing. Last night, he ate some ground sirloin. We bought it on Sunday night and I fixed it last night by broiling it on 500 in the oven. I have told him to watch for bloody diarrhea incase it is e.coli. I held off on phenergran because even though he is nauseous, the diarrhea is taking precedence. He has had 3-4 bouts of diarrhea

He is chilling. I didn't take his temp. No blood in stools, I have told him to look for that. No vomiting, but slight nausea. He has had 3-4 bouts of diarrhea so far. No abdominal pain, he says that he feels very full. I pressed on his stomach. No tenderness, no rigidity, but very distended. he has asthma and was recently on an antibiotic for an upper respitory infection. he does have a cough still.

Accepted Answer

well it could be simple gastritis. make sure he continues to drink fluid. his condition should improve on its own. if he develops fever or get blood in stools or have more frequent stools or can't retain any fluid take him to ER. you can give him prilosec OTC.
