Question

My daughter washes dishes at a diner and they have to wash the dishes, then rinse them in clean water & then dip them in bleach water. Her first night doing this she came home with a rash on the back side of her hands that burns. Is the bleach water causing this or the plastic gloves she has to wear while fixing the food? What can we do to help this problem??

Answer

Hello,

Welcome to Just Answer and thanks for your question. Bleach solution is certainly irritating to skin and can cause a rash. It can also be from the detergent the dishes are washed in, or just from having her hands wet so much. She should wear household rubber gloves for washing dishes. Plastic gloves are usually not a big problem, unless they happen to be latex and she is allergic. If there is any question, she can supply her own non-latex gloves until the company can provide some for her.
