Age: 3; Female; Breed: American Shorthair

Already Tried:
My Mom just passed away a month ago in Georgia. Bille ( a female) has been used to being with my Mom all day. She has also become familiar with me over the past three years and bonded with me from the day we met even though I visit from out of town twice a year. In the last month we have become very close. I have had the month off to clean out my Mom's house as well as settle the estate. Feb 2nd I go back to work in Chicago. Work 5 days a week 10-12 hour days. I love Bille so much but want her to have a life that is not lonely. At the same time I am afraid she will not adjust to anyone else. Advise?

Hi,

Yes, you can leave your cat at home for 10 hours, but be sure to give her attention and lots of activity when you come home (and before you leave). Most likely she will spend a lot of time sleeping and eating, so she will be ready to play when you get home. You might look for some toys that move when she touches them to help keep her stimulated during the day.

If you need permission to adopt another cat as a friend, you have mine! But there are a lot of "single" cats out there that do just fine on their own.

A good site to look at is www.indoorcat.com . It talks about how to enrich the environment for indoor cats to help prevent stress and behavioral problems.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have other questions.
