Hello!
Recovering from pneumonia, you have both the excess cough and probably some post-nasal drainage which have the vocal cords inflammed and swollen. You probably feel this as a "frog in the throat" sensation, and a need to clear your voice all the time. These symptoms along with the hoarseness are due to the swollen vocal cords. It may take a couple of weeks for the coughing from the healing pneumonia and the inflammed airways to settle down. It may take this 2 weeks plus an additional week for the vocal cord inflammation to settle down. There are a few tips that I would recommend to do that may help. Gargle twice a day with salt water. This may help settle down swelling associated with the back of the throat. Take an anti-inflammatory like Aleve 2 tabs twice a day with food. Continue to take a cough suppressant, even OTC one to take the edge off the excess cough. Try to rest your voice as much as possible. If your doctor is in agreement I will often prescibe Singulair for 30 days in a case like yours. It is usually used for asthma but it helps to settle down airway inflammation in a case like yours. I hope this info helps. Follow up questions are welcome if you have any.
