Question

What are the labor and ADA laws about having therapy or comfort dogs in the workplace in California?

Accepted Answer

Essentially both ADA and California require that the employer provide reasonable accomodations to disabled employees to permit "service" animals unless such accomodations would result in undue hardship to the employer's business. As to comfort animals, this is a gray area as California and ADA mostly require that the employee be "disabled" and that the animal be a "service" animal to assist the employee with their disability in the workplace.
