Answer

I use compressed air to blow out of the loop and then once reconnected there should be purge valve down on the loop that you remove or moved radiation. The auto feeder has fast fill feature that should only be used when purging

I'm still confused on where that water is going? Am I shutting off a zone/loop somewhere and physically draining it? And using compressed air, how?

Answer

I put a schader valve in on furnace so I can put the compressed air in and attach hose on purge to drain or outside

I see Rick, unfortunately I am not at the job site. The house was built in the mid-60's and is oil burner/hydronic baseboard. Do think this type of system would already have a schader valve or something of the like in order to service/repair the system? Thanks for your patience!

Answer

No most do not have that but is a drain in the floor you can just use hose to drain the boiler or pump it out

If I drain the boiler(after shutting it down) how are they usually refilled? I just installed a radiant floor system in the addition on my house and I know I have a direct line into the system from my domestic water supply, am I to assume there should be a similar setup from their domestic water that would have a shut off valve?

Answer

There should fill system on the boiler and could be found by following the cold water to the furnace

Almost there Rick! So I would shut off the cold water supply to the boiler after turning it off, move my line(s), refill system, check for leaks, if good re-fire boiler, and purge air. Am I on the right track?

Accepted Answer

yes shut off supply water to boiler and drain make repair and then fill and purge air out of loop
