PDPCMX507 remote does not work - must use power switch to turn unit off/on - what do I need?

How old is this unit and has it been working.
Have you checked the batteries in the remote

The unit is about 1 1/2 years old.
The remote has ALWAYS worked until last friday when I used it to turn on the unit but then it would not turn it off. I tried new batteries (checked in another device to be sure they were ok). Unplugged the unit from the power to see f it would unlock. It did not.
There are keys on the lower left front/bottom panel of the Plasma Display - these are marked:
"Menu"
"Display/Set"
"Input"
"Screen Size"
"Volume"
These keys DO NOT respond when I touch them.

That indicates a more serious fault with the controls. This will have to be serviced by a specialist.
