Info Request

Hi rick
my name is don and i will try and help you
depending on the date it was manufactured
it was anywhere from 295 hp top 190 hp

the reason i say that is because of the impossed emmissions applied by the goverment

gm started to reduce the horse power in 1971 by reducing the compression ratios and such

to answer your question at little closer i would need the engine serial number located on the block at the rear left side of the engine behind the head (drivers side )

also you will have to pull one valve cover off and give me the head casting number you will see the raise numbers
plus the intake casting number

is this a 2 or four barrel carb
thanks don

It is a 4 barrel carb, but the truck isnt here right now, but it was an early 71 chevy truck 350 4 bbl, also is that a 4 bolt main?, thanks Rick

Answer

Hi rick

when decoding the engine at most web sites
it will state when you run the numbers that it came with either 2 or 4 bolt mains but you will not be able to tell untill you take the oil pan off unless you can find old chev dealer that still has microfiche and you give them your serial number and they can tell you what came in it
if it is an early made nodel like before jan 1 1971 then its a good chance that it is a 290 horse power engine

but when you ge the block casting numbers and head casting numbers you will know for sure
once tou have them you can go to this web site and look up all the casting numbers and it will tell you

let me know
