What is the make and model of the monitor and the computer? Has it always done this? What was the last thing that you installed before this happened

Answer

Right click on the screen (desktop) where there are no icons. Go to properties and then select the screensave tab there is a button in there called monitor power under power schemes there is a time listed that will shut off the monitor after a given time. You can change that to stop the sleep
