Question

I need a step by step solution to this problem not just the answer. PlEASE DON'T DO THE ANSWER IN EXCEL!Consider the formula P=67.38*(1.026)t. If we let P represent the population of Mexico in year "t" where t is the number of years from 1980 ,confirm that this formula gives the same population values as those given in this example. YEAR:1980 POPULATION IN MILLIONS:67.38;YEAR:1981 POPULATION IN MILLIONS:69.13;YEAR:1982 POPULATION IN MILLIONS:70.93;YEAR:1983 POPULATION IN MILLIONS:72.77;YEAR:1984 POPULATION IN MILLIONS:74.66;yEAR:1985 POPULATION IN MILLIONS:76.60;YEAR:1986 POPULATION IN MILLIONS:78.59; A)What would the population in 1990 have been if growth had continued in this same pattern?B)How many years beyond 1980 will it take to double the population assuming the growth continues in the same pattern?

Hi, again

Formula is : P=67.38*(1.026)^t

YEAR:1980 POPULATION IN MILLIONS:67.38; t=0 then P=67.38*(1.026)^0=67.38
YEAR:1981 POPULATION IN MILLIONS:69.13 t=1 then P=67.38*(1.026)^1=69.13
YEAR:1982 POPULATION IN MILLIONS:70.93 t=2 then P=67.38*(1.026)^2=70.93
YEAR:1983 POPULATION IN MILLIONS:72.77 t=3 then P=67.38*(1.026)^3=72.77
YEAR:1984 POPULATION IN MILLIONS:74.66 t=4 then P=67.38*(1.026)^4=74.67
yEAR:1985 POPULATION IN MILLIONS:76.60 t=5 then P=67.38*(1.026)^5=76.6
YEAR:1986 POPULATION IN MILLIONS:78.59 t=6 then P=67.38*(1.026)^6=78.6

Year 1990, t =10 then
P=67.38*(1.026)^10=87.097 millions

we have to find t where 2(67.38)=67.38(1.026)^t

then 1.026^t=2

tLn(1.026)=Ln(2)

t= Ln(2)/Ln(1.026)=27 (aprox)

so year is 2007

Thanks

Steve

Any bonus is appreciated
