Optional Information

2002 Oldsmobile Alero

Already Tried:
Alero - Heat/Ac was only blowing on med-hi - hi speeds, now nothing. Heat comes out but not enough to clear windshield of frost and freezing rain.

Have not tried anyting yet, although someone mentioned replacing the blower resistor. This car is a pain and right now I am laid off.

Answer

Thank you for your question hope this helps.

The blower motor resistor has gone out. The resistor works like a volume nod on a radio

when it goes bad the power is only on the high setting.

Blower resistors are located is under the dash on the passenger side right next to the blower motor the screws are 1/4 in, not metric not to hard of a fix except that one screw in the back.

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

  1. Remove the right side instrument panel lower insulator.
  2. Disconnect the blower resistor electrical connector.
  3. Remove the blower resistor screws.
  4. Remove the blower motor resistor.

To Install:

  1. Install the blower resistor.
  2. Install the blower resistor screws.
  3. Connect the electrical connector to the blower resistor.
  4. Install the right side instrument panel lower insulator.

Thanks alot. Does this cause the heater to eventually stop working too?

Accepted Answer

Yes if the blower resistor is to far broken it will stop working all together.

It may also work then stop working then be ok. It is because the resistor is heating up and failing then it cools down and works.
