Question

We suspect our cat just ate a 50 mg benadryl gel cap. we are not sure however. is this a lethal dose? anything we can do? we are 50 miles from the nearest er clinic.

it just happened. we haven't tried anything yet. we're not even sure he ate the pill.

The likelihood of him actually eating a pill is very low as cats are quite picky on what goes in their mouths. If he did eat it things could go one way or another. He may not show any symptoms at all, he could be very lethargic with no other side effects but because he has consumed approximately 5 times the normal dose for a cat it is possible that he could react very adversely with hyperactivity, irritability and possibly even seizures.

I would monitor him very closely since we are already a few hours out and if you notice any twitching or extreme sedation then definitely have him evaluated.
