Question

Hi, I have a 15 month old Vizsla he is always going after socks. When he was smaller he would swallow them, luckily we were able to retrieve them before too late so our worries stopped. He was recently staying with my in-laws while we were on vacation. I am worried that he may have gotten ahold of a sock and ate it. I have noticed that after he eats, he is trying to vomit and seems to be a bit sleepy and restless. The problem is I can't be sure that he ate the sock and if so it would have been numerous days ago. Is there something I should look for to know for sure if he ate it?

Answer

Your best option might be a vet exam with perhaps an x-ray or ultrasound to see if there is any obstruction or partial obstruction along his digestive tract.

Sometimes items move slowly along until they get to a point they get stuck and cause a blockage or even a twist or telescoping of the intestinal tract.

With the symptoms you are listing if you can see your vet with him tomorrow you might want to do that.

If he isn't passing stool or is only passing a little or diarrhea that might be a sign of a partial or full blockage.

Hope this helps you!
