Question

Whilst travelling up the motorway yesterday my car started to hold back when I asked for acceleration, then started juddering. This stopped once I released the pressure on the accelerator, then once again when trying to speed up it juddered but if I kept at 50 - 60 mph there seemed to be no problem as long as I kept the revs low.......any idea.

I believe it is 2003 as it is on a 03 plate, first registered on 20102003, it is a almera tino with an 1.8 engine the engine has just clocked over 30000 miles

Accepted Answer

I am sorry, I have no literature on United Kingdom model Nissan's since I am from the US, how ever, knowing Nissan's the way I do, your problem sounds like a Maf problem. The best way to verify this is having the Air fuel ratio checked using a scan tool, if out of spec, then Maf sensor replacement may be necessary to correct your problem.

If you have any more questions please feel free to ask . Thanks Jay!

If this is the problem what do you think the going rate is for a new Maf sensor

Answer

I can not help you with that, I am not sure on what parts cost in the United Kingdom, I only know what they go for in the US.

In the US a 1.8 is in our Nissan Sentra. A Maf sensor for a Sentra with a 1.8 is around $478.00

Thats US cost, like I said, I don't know what it may cost in your country.

Thanks Jay!

jUST ONE THING i HAVE REPLACED THE PART BUT NOW THERE IS A WARNING LIGHT COME ON DOES THAT NEED TO BE RESET BY A NISSAN DEALER

Answer

If you are speaking about the Service Engine Soon light, it can be reset normally by disconnecting the battery for 10 mins. If that does not work, then it would need to be cleared with a scan tool.

No it actually says something about you have developed a fault and you may breakdown soon, it is an orange light on the dash light panel that looks like the shape of an engine part

Answer

If thats the case, then it would most likely need to be looked at and a scanner hooked to the car to determine what action is needed.

Thanks Jay!
