Question

I have scoliosis, although I don't know to what degree; my ribs at sternum level have began to bulge outwards, and I know this is caused by poor posture due to said condition. Is there a name for this condition, and can something be done to arrest it before ir progresses any further?

it was diagnosed when I was 13, and have seen a number of orthopedists & traumatologists who recommend some odd exercises, but although they might have slowed down the condition, the on-and-off pain has always been there, although I have chosen to live wtih it instead of medicating myself to oblivion. There is no one else with this affliction in my immediate family. I am the second child (surviving twin) and parents are in good physical condition when I was conceived. Father is too short for his generation (1.59 cms) mother avg height (1.60cms) for her generation, maternal grandparents taller than avg generation. I am from mixed background (jewish, french, spaniard, mestizo, arabic and northern russian). I also have a number of allergies (pollen, dander, dust, etc).

So you are having your scoliosis since your early age. There is generally a cause behind a scoliosis like prolapsed disc, congenital hemivertebrae, fusion of part of vertebrae,,spinal cord pathology & others. If any of the causes does not exists then it is labeled as the idiopathic variety.
You should do following to have better results-
1.A MRI scan is a necessary investigation regarding this where a whole part of spine is screened to rule out for pathology as well as angle of scoliosis in the spine.
2.A thoracolumber curve of greater then 50 degree with pain, progressive deformity with pain, cardiothoracic compromise, lumber curve more then 40 degree with pain are indication for surgical assistence. But you should not forget about your age because now there has been elements of stenosis in your spine & also your spine may be osteoporotic (as looks by your age).Surgery in such cases may have some chances for complication. You should consult it with your surgeon.
3.There are various other type of exercises & brace treatment in this regard ,you may take the help of an expert physiotherapist.
I think this will help you.
With regards.
