Question

Hi there...the compressor on our chiller cabinet has started screeching loudly. So far this is not a continuous sound - if turned off and on it will not screech to start with, then will start again. At times it sounds as tho it is slowing down the compressor. I'm wondering whether there are any bearings to lubricate or whether it is some other fault that I may be able to alleviate myself. Thanks in anticipation of any help...

Answer

There should be a fan motor down there it is probably the cause compressors usauly don't screech.

Thank you Tom. Indeed the fan was doing the screeching, and a little oil seems to have cured it. With best wishes, Geoff Dees, Alford, Lincolnshire...
