Question

My front laoding washing machine gave me an electric shock!
I was removing the clothes and touched the drum with my elbow as I reached inside. This was after I noticed that water was running out from under the machine. The cycle was finished...water was leaking out...and I got a shock.
Where do i start trouble shooting?

Hello XXXXXXXXXXX, my name is XXX. XXX need to check to see if you machine is properly grounded. I am not sure where you live or how old your house is but it is important to know if your receptacle is grounded. Then we can take a look to see where you machine is leaking. Bob

Hi Bob, I took the back off the machine and saw that the cable had been rubbing against the drum. That was the reason for the short sharp shock I received!

Now for the leak.....

As the back is off, I just ran the machine through a cycle and watched what was going on.

I did saw a small amount of water at the front of the machine under the drum in the area of the pump.

So, how do I trouble shoot this further and isolate the leak.

It's probably a gasket or something minor. The problem will be in getting to it. I'm sure with your help we will overcome!

Thanks

Alex

Ok, finding a leak unless its really apparent, it can be tricky. What I always did was looked for water marks on components in the area of where the leak appears to be. Maybe a good place to start is by giving me the make and model number. Please get the model number from the manufacturer's name plate. Also a last note, even though you found the reason for the short, you haven't determined why the short wasn't carried to ground. This is not a safe condition if your machine isn't properly grounded. good morning.

The machine wasn't grounded because the chord was chafffed through. I have replaced it and I know that the socket is grouinded because we changed it out recently too.

Thanks for thinking safety first.

As for the make and model and the water leak.
