Question
I have a 1985 BMW 325e with 165,000 miles. I experienced a vibration under spirited acceleration that was diagnosed as a drive shaft problem. A new drive shaft was installed along all other drive shaft parts and the problem appeared to go away. A few weeks latter, the vibration problem came back. Motor mounts were replaced and transmission mount with no change. As a last resort another drive shaft was installed again with no change. The shop I am going to is well know and respected for BMW service. At this point they do not know what to do next. They do not want to keep replacing parts at my expense with no resolution. Do you have any suggestions ?

Answer
Hi sounds like a drive shaft issue. But since it was replaced I guess that is not it. Have you had other work done to this before. As a 1985 325e I am most positive the frt control arm bushings have had to been replaced. Rear control arm bushings and rear diff bushing. If you have never had and other type of bushings replaced you should start there. Cking them closely. Should not be that hard to tell buy cking all bushing on which ones are shot. Just that model and age there has to be worn out bushings that will give you vibrations when componets shift around. Let me know what you think. Thanks mike

Dear Andy and Mike,
Thank you for your response, it is not that I am not going to pay, I was just waiting to see if anyone else had any other suggestions. In Mike's response he asked if I had done any other work done on the car. In my question I listed all of what had been done, don't know if you (Mike) did not see those comments or not. Was also wondering if there could be a half shaft problem, although there does not seem to be any noise from those. My shop has actually suggested replacing the rear sub-frame bushings, however they are not sure this is the problem. They appear to be worn, however in there experience these items have not caused the particular viberation that I am experiencing.

Hi Yes I saw what work was done . I was hoping through out the last couple years other work has been done. I guess not. Could be half shafts have seen it happen on a few newer models. Just with all the worn bushings the car has to have. Will they completly fix the issue maybe not. Will they play a part in it yes. I always look at the bad parts first you have to start replacing what you know is bad first. Thanks mike
