Question

Hi I have adopted a brother and sister pairing of French Lops who are now 8 mths and have been very close.   I have had him neutered and so they have been separated for a couple of weeks. I have let them be in the house together under supervision and they have been fine. I trid putting him in the cage with her and she started mounting him which I have never seen her do before and which I guess in teritorial. Any tips for making the re-introduction as smooth as possible and will they be close again. Thank you Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Thanks for your question.

I would highly recommend you have her spayed as well. Females can also become quite aggressive and territorial once they are sexually mature (like you are finding out). The other reason is female rabbits have high rates of developing uterine cancer and breast cancer as they age if they are not spayed.

At home, try the introduction in a very neutral area where neither one of them has been before. If you are using 'her' cage, 'his' cage etc. it may not work. Some people will get a play pen type gate and surround an area. Do be on hand like you have been.

I think the following link will also be helpful. http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/introductions.html

I hope they do well. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
