1996 Honda Accord. The temperature control jammed. While unjamming it appeared to have broke internally. The heat only comes out at the maximum setting even though the knob turns ok now. How can I fix this problem? Thanks.

Answer

I have seen this many times. First pull the knob off and see if it has broken. Sometimes the plastic knob breaks before anything else.
If the knob is not broken then the cable has more than likely came off the heater control. The cable will need to be replaced.
The center console and dash panel instrument cluster trim along with the radio will need to be removed to get to the heater control. The cable runs behind and under the glove box and attaches to a lever set-up that operates the air mix door and heater valve under the hood. Make sure the heater valve and air mix door operate smoothly while doing the reapir,the air mix door sometimes sticks from lack of movement and the cable on the heater valve can stick to the pin also.
