Question

I have an 8 week old shih tzu, have had her 2weeks. She had 2 doses of wormer and her 6 week shots already when I bought her. She ate fine yesterday a.m. and normal bowel movement. starting about 2 pm she has had 6 bouts of diarehea , her last 2 between 5 and 8 a.m. this morning. Would only eat a couple bites last night but ate good this morning. I hear her tummy grumbling after eating. She is up and running around as normal, vet not in until tomorrow, what should I do? no sign of any worms

Answer

Thanks for writing in,

I'm happy that your girl is eating fine and very energetic. She could have just gotten into something that caused alittle upset belly. Because she is doing great right now, all I may recommend you do is put alittle bit of nonflavored plain yogur on her food when she eats. This will help replace the "good bacteria" that she is losing with the soft stool. Do not give her any more raw egg as this contains salmonellla and could cause worsening diarrhea.

IF at any point her energy level really goes down, she isn't wanting to eat, diarrhea continues, and vomiting occurs, then you will want to be sure to get her to the vet asap as she can become dehydrated very quickly and will want to rule out the possibility of parvo. Take care and congrats on the new pup!
