Answer

Hi,

The myopathy (muscle damage) that occurs with statins is almost always fully reversable with discontinuation of the statin. It sometimes takes months, but the creatine phospho kinase which signals muscle damage almost always return to normal.

Since statins lower the CoQ10 in mucsle cells, some people feel that replacement of it (as you have tried) may help prevent muscle damage in the first place, but there are no good studies to support this. I still recommend it to my patients who have some muscle aches.

In summary, it is highly unusual (but possible) for the muscle damage to continue after statin therapy. I would stick with CoQ10, and maybe try an anti-inflammatory (aleve), but it will likely resolve on its own.

Good Luck.
