Where is the heater fan resistor located on a 2000 Legacy Outback Limited, and how is the best way to replace it (I have the part)? Many thanks!

Optional Information:
2000 Subaru Outback Limited

Already Tried:
The fan fails in 1,2,3,fan levels. It occasionally works on level 4. Not the fuse....Car Quest tells us it is the fan heater resistor - they have the part for us. We need to know the location of this replacement part. We cannot find it under the hood, nor in a box in the glove department. If behind the heater how do you get to it?

TITLE: Blower Motor Resistor Repairs

APPLIES TO: All models

SERVICE TIP:

If you get a vehicle in with a repeat blower motor resistor complaint and you have checked the blower motor for excessive draw, we suggest you replace the blower motor at the same time you install a new resistor.

Subaru has received some calls where vehicles have come back after having the blower motor resistor replaced. Changing out the blower motor and resistor at the same time has repaired the vast majority of these vehicles.
