Dear XXXXXXX; this is a dilemma for you and the family at this juncture because some of the infromation you site is very vague. For instance, babies inutero swallow amniotic fluid all the time with no harm to them. In fact, the amniotic fluid in their lungs and swallowed into their digestive tracts is essential to normal health and development. But there is something missing in what you undrstand to be the problem. We screen for Down`s syndrome either with amniocentesis or 'triple screening"either of which can still be done, although time is running short and amniocentesis at this point gives information too late for any reasonable action.. Infections can always be treated although you have not state what is the nature of this infection. Swallowing blood is harmless if that is accurate. You need more answers from the doctors. What is the source of bleeding? placenta? What is the nature of the infection? What is the evidence of Downs? If you get these answers, your anxiety might be reduced. Good luck
