Question

I have a Trane gas pack, neither the cool or heat side work, just stopped suddenly. Power to the unit seams ok, no tripped breakers. Thermostat is digital, seams to be working fine. What is the next direction I should go? I live in South Carolina so it's about 65 during the day right now.

ok u need to check the incoming voltage to the unit, should 208/230 if there is a dissconnect out by the unit see if there are fuses in it .

No incoming voltage, but here is the interesting part. We dismantled a pool several years back. Left the breaker outside. Wife noticed it was smoking this summer and told me to get rid of it. Turned the power off to dig up the buried cable, found it had smoked and burnt itself to the foundation. Didn't ever find out where it was connected to the breaker. Now it appears that there is an extra wire coming into the breaker box for the gas pump. There should be one set in and on set out, but there are three, and the wire goes back into the foundation brick. Maybe they tapped into this for the pool pump? Strange. Plus we have had a lot of rain lately while we have been in a droufgt the last three years. It is dark now. tommorow I will disconnect the extra wires and see what happens. For now I will shut the main breaker off.

Don't feel to comfortable about that, might have a buddy come check it out. I do notice that when I turn the breaker off and back on in the main panel, I can see it arcing like there is a short somewhere. The main breaker tripped one time but won't now. Anything else before I accept your reply? Sorry I am at the minimum, but that is why I am trying to fix the problem myself. Broke.
