Question
Is it illegal to declare oneself to be a medical practitioner when one is not? What can be done about someone who is going about pretending to be a doctor. Also, is it illegal to pretend to be a legal practitioner. I know someone who pretends to be both, he thinks that he has me convinced but I know that he has no degree in either field.

Answer
Hi XXXXXXXX
in both cases it is illegal and it can lead to prosecution.
If you suspect that someone is practicing medicine and is not a doctor authorised to practice in Australia you should report them to the Australian Medical Association in your state.
In relation to a lawyer you should report them to the Law society in your state or if it is a barrister to the bar association.
They will then undertake an investigation and decide if the police should be involved.
I hope this is of assistance and if so please click on the accept button
