Hiya,
Unfortunately I've got a few questions for you.
Do you hear the fan in the freezer compartment running? (You can normally hear it stopping when you open the fridge door).
Do you have a sheet of ice under the bottom basket in the freezer?
Is the freezer actually cold enough? (Don't go by the numbers on the display).
Thanks
OK, if there is no cooling in the fridge then the air diffusor on the top shelf has most likely frozen closed.
You can try the hairdryer trick to thaw it out or you can strip it out and replace it.
To remove it, take the cover off in the fridge, remove the ice maker (if fitted) remove the top half of the back panel in the freezer and the panel from the roof of the freezer. You can then unclip the diffusor and remove it into the fridge section.
Can you tell me a bit more about the light flashing on the display?
The capacitors on the rear pcb have gone out of spec. This is a fairly common fault on these. Depending on how old the appliance is depends on whether 1 or 2 pcbs need replacing.
It's not the casing of the fridge you've to take off, it's the plastic cover on the top shelf with the vents in it. That covers the air diffusor.
If you post the other number from your rating plate beginning 11 (prefix it with A so it doesn't get crossed out) I'll be able to tell you the manufacturing date and what pcb's are required.
Hope this helps.
You need the later electronics, rear pcb should be enough to sort the problem.
This looks to be the correct board. Click here.
Defrosting the air diffusor may work ok, it may only work temporarily.
You may actually have to change it for a new one.
The rear board should solve the other problem but there is the slight chance that a front board may be required.
Unfortunately I can't be 100% definite on my answers as I'm not actually doing a "hands on" diagnosis.
To be honest, I'd try calling Whirlpool and see what deal Domestic and General can offer on a repair and warranty.
Alternatively, sign up with Domestic and General or British Gas, wait a month or two and have it repaired.
What it's going to cost to repair will pay for a repair scheme for a year on 2 or 3 appliances.
Get some quotes on it.
