Hello, Sally. I have a few more questions for you. Where did you get her from? About how much does she weigh? Do these spells seem to happen after eating?

We got her from a relative. This relative found her in his shed. The mother cat was missing and the only sibling was dead. They kept the kitten for a week then we took her. The spells do SEEM to happen after she eats. And she doesn't seem thirsty at all. I would guess that she weighs a pound or so...I don't have any way to weigh her.

Thanks for the information. What you are describing could very well be seizures. If they seem to be happening after she eats, I would be very concerned about a liver abnormality called a portosystemic shunt. This is a condition where substances from the intestinal tract bypass the liver in the bloodstream. Since they are not detoxified in the liver, they create a toxicity in the system, causing irritation to the nervous system, which can lead to depression and seizures after eating. There could be other issues going on like viral diseases (i.e., leukemia, feline AIDS) or parasitic diseases (i.e.; worms, toxoplasmosis). There is not much you can probably do at home. I get her into your veterinarian for an exam. They will probably want to run some bloodwork on her to test liver and kidney function and test for leukemia and AIDS. They should also run a fecal exam to look for certain parasites. Depending on what is found, further tests like Bile Acids may need to be ran. I would recommend trying to get the episode on videotape so your veterinarian can watch it and determine if it is indeed seizures. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your help. It's the weekend and emergency visits/off hour visits cost so much more. I will take her to my vet on Monday.
