Question

I have an Arcoaire furnace and a Trane air conditioning unit which are about 10-15 years old. Around 9:30-10:00 in the morning there is a grinding sound in the wall of a bedroom behind the furnace which sounds like a small motor is trying to kick over and and can't kick in and then shuts off and then tries kicking in again. I've had the furnace serviced and the maintenance reps haven't been able to find anything. Is there something not connected between the furnace and some air outflow that isn't working or is it connected with the air condition unit? The control is a Honeywell thermostat that is electronically timed to turn on and off at different times of the day. I'm bewildered by this noise and fearful it might be something that could cause a fire.

I've been timing it the last couple of days while I was home during the day. It may do it later in the day or evening. I can't say it is consistently doing it at the same time in the a.m. It can come on earlier around 8:30 a.m., too.
