If the check engine light came on the car can be scanned for codes and that will lead you to the most likey wet connection. Don't clean the engine any more!

Yes the car has to be scanned. I know in the USA the parts stores will do it for free.

I don't think you have anything more than a wet connection from the engine wash. the check engine light means the car stored a trouble code and scanning for that code will get uds right to the wet connection.
