Question

i have a 2003 bmw 735i the gear changes are smooth most of the time but it clunks/bangs sometimes when changing up. then the other day the fail safe mode came up on the computer inand it said may have reduced acceleration. i then turned the car off and on again and the message had gone. about ten minutes later i started driving up a fairly steep hill and the light came on again. then when restarted the car it had gone. i was wondering if the oil needed changing or toppin up? its done 90k.

Answer

Hi! And welcome to JA...let me see if I can help.

I would have the dealer look at the vehicle this vehicle more than likely needs an update in programming. What they do is hook the vehicle up to a station and download all the new updates for the transmission and all other systems. Unfortunately that can only be done at the dealership.
