Question

we are presently caring for a rabbit that was in a house fire yesterday. He was in the room that was the source of the fire, filled with smoke. His eyes probably need flushing, I have Clear Eyes (Boric acid, sodium chloride, sodium borate) for my horses - can I use it on a rabbit? HIs nostrils flame a bit when he breathes, nose extending a little farther forward than usual - not coughing or sneezing. Is there anything ( humidifier?) we can do to make it easier on him? He has no burns, still has all his hair, was covered in black when rescued. thank yo so much XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX

Wow that is so great of you to take of this bunny! That is such a traumatic thing to go through for any animal.

I would not recommend the Clear Eyes. I think you are better off using plain saline solution like for contact lenses (be sure it doesn't have a cleaner in it too). Plain saline solution is very non-toxic and doesn't have all the other stuff in it. Of the ingredients you listed sodium chloride is the only thing I would use which is plain saline solution.

I don't think there is anything else you should do at this point. I would not humidify unless he starts coughing and you are trying to break stuff up in his lungs. Just keep him in a calm, quiet place. Make sure he is eating and drinking.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks, I appreciate the quick reply, hopefully Bosley and his friends ( a cockatiel, parakeet, two rats and a guinea pig, will make it through okay.! Bosley is the only one SHOWING any symptoms, the rest of the critters were in the next room and were removed sooner. I'm keeping a close eye on all of them! Thank you and happy Holidays!
