I have a wood stove in the basement with a 6 inch insulated pipe chimney running up an exterrior wall. have a great draft when it gets going but i have the problem of cold flue pipe at stand-by. Light fire in the morning and it's extremly difficult to get a draft going.would putting a damper or a closable chimney cap help this problem?

Answer

Being an outside chimney there is nothing other then heat that will keep your draft, try using a propane torch before you make a fire to warm the chimney and then make your fire
