Yes, iv colchicine can rarely cause renal failure with "rhabdomyolysis" or muscle breakdown, heart and liver toxicity. This drug is usually safer when given by mouth. Particularly if someone already has some kidney dysfunction, or with higher doses the risks are greater for toxicity.
