Question

I have a 2001 Audi TT and a 2004 Toyota Corolla. Both have unusual tire wear on the left rear inside edge. They both emit a "rub rub rumble" sound, especially noticeable at low speeds. Sound does not change when coasting in neutral or vary with engine speed. I have jacked up the rear of these cars and pulled on the offending wheel which seems to have no play and no grinding when the wheel is rotated. Please help.

Answer

Hello and thank you for using JA

Seems to me both vehicle is been drop or lowered, and the camber alignment of the car is in need of kit.

If alignment is been done in both car, and did not correct the issue, the alignment tech should inform you with the issue, its either arm damage, or camber issue, if the car is been drop as I mention above, then you need a camber kit for both car to correct the alignment, if car is never been drop or lowered, take if for front or rear end alignment, to find out what is the issue.
