Question

Sir or Maam, I have a 2005 Escalade with 63k miles. The rear ventilation is always cold, regardless of location of control.   Front ventilation works great so we just leave the rear set off and use the front to warm the car. What could this be?

Optional Information

2005 Cadillac Escalade 6.0 V8

Already Tried:
I have merely tried every iteration of controls. I have front and rear climate control, both controllable from the front or the back. Both controls function but the air that comes out is always cold. I have had the vehicle a week and spent lots of time in the owners manual verifying my operation. Not sure if it is related but the Engine temp sensor also reads 100F all the time, it might go up to 120F but the engine is warm as expected and the heat works fine in the front climate control section. I have worked many older engines and autos but am not familiar with what this problem could be.

Answer

Hello XXXXXXXX, this can be a blockage in the rear heating system or a problem with the control unit. It is common for the rear climate control module to fail and not allow you to control the rear temp. You may want to first make sure that the rear heater lines are getting hot. If they are not then there is most likely a blockage in the system.

Is the rear control module common to both the forward and rear controls (knobs and buttons)? I have rear control knobs in the front and in the back.

Answer

The front and back will have different modules. I just saw the addition to your last post. If the engine temp is not getting up towards the normal running temp of 200 degrees then this can cause not heat in the rear either.

What I mean by different modules is: are there two modules for rear control since I have controls for the rear in both the front and rear?

Answer

No there is only one module. What does the engine temp gauge run at?

The engine gage runs at 180-200, I was mistaken, this vehicle also has a transmission temperature gage that reads low in the cold weather and does not heat up until I get on the highway. Engine temp is normal. Front heat is normal.

Answer

Okay. If the engine is at normal temp then start by making sure that the rear heater lines get hot when the engine is hot. If they do then the problem is in the rear module.
