If a puppy has its 1st shots & the owners give it away, and the new owner takes the dog & gives it shots & registers it; if then the old owner wants it back does the new owner have to return the dog?

I have encountered this situation a few times in my professional life, the shots and registering the puppy would not be related to the issue.

Generally speaking a puppy is regarded as a " good or chattel " like any other object. If you give it away it will become the rightful property of the new owner unless there is some contract either written or verbal which would cover its return.
