Question

Center Console lights up but doesn't work. The LED lights on the radio and AC/Heater come on but when I try to turn on the radio, AC, Heater, or fan nothing happens. I can turn the HVAC controls on/off, adjust the fan speed but nothing blows.   I have checked all the fuses in the fuse panel and they all buzz our on a continuity check with multimeter. Any ideas?

Info Request

Hello XXXXXXXXXX and welcome to justanswer.com,

What year and model Honda is this?

Do you hear the radio just can't see the display?

2005 Honda Pilot.
Can turn the radio power on but can hear nothing.
"CD, CD1, CD2....etc " show on the display when I press the CD button. When I press "AM/FM" I do not get an station showing on the display, only the CD shows.

On the climate control all the funtion appear to properly display but nothing happens. For example I turn the AC on, turn the fan speed up (all of which show up properly on the LCD display) but nothing happens.

Answer

Have you checked all the fuse panels? There are three: driver's under dash, passenger's under dash and under hood.

Fuse #9 (15 amp) is for the radio.

Has there been any recent body work? accident?

any recent work at all?

Checked all four fuse panels. (Two under the hood, one by drivers left foot and one by pasengers right foot.) All fuses buzzed out with a continuity test. Can't speak to any recent accident, body work etc. Just bought the vehicle and discovered these issues.

Answer

You really have two different systems at work here.

I need to read both schematics to see if they share a ground or other wire.

Yes, it is a two part problem.
Disconnected the battery and re-entered the code for the radio and now it works.

The AC/Heater issue is the outstanding problem.
Looks like I'll start at the relay. Should get continuity between 1-2 when supplying 3-4 with 12v.(Edit. That checks out)

Next check the transistor. Should get 1.4-1.5ohms when running. If that checks out pull #3 contact then supply 12v to blade terminal and the fan should run. If fan runs then we have a bad transistor.

If both transistor and fan work then you have a problem with the control unit.

Is that about the gist of it or am I missing something?

Answer

You are right on track here. I can provide you with a troubleshooting schematic. If it is auto climate control you can check for dtc's stored in control unit. Let em know

It does have auto climate control.

Tested thermistor ohmage from pins 1-4 and they were right at 1.5ohms.
Removed pin three and then supplied 12v to the male pin. Fan did not come on.
So then I supplied ground and 12v directly to the fan and the fan kicked on so I know the fan works.

From what I can tell this a positive indication that the thermistor is bad even though the ohmage portion of the test telling was good. I have a thermistor coming in tomorrow so I'll know soon.

Answer

looks like you've got it figured out. good luck with the repair and let me know how it turns out.

do you still want the troubleshooting links?
