Question

1990 Diahatsu Rocky, Overheats at high speeds. New Water Pump and Thermostat (done) I think the cooling fan is not spinning with the engine rpm. So that below 30 mph it is ok with the heat fan on. 40 mph and faster the heat fan is not good enough. How can I lock the radiator cooling fan to turn with the engine speed ?

Already Tried:
I wedged an elastic strap from the seat cover into the space between the radiator cooling fan and the water pump pully. This seemed to help until the strap came out.
Im thinking of filling that space entirely with adhesive caulk, but I think balancing might be a problem.
Can you call me ? I could pay another $30.00 for good "make it work" ideas.

Hi there. Cooling fans do not do much at all at highway speeds, but the flow through the radiator is what you are missing. No flow heats up. Replace radiator and you will have no more problems with overheating at highway speeds.

I cant find a new radiator to fit. The cost of modifying the system might exceed the value of the car

Hi there. Look to see if there is a radiator shop that can fix the flow problem in your radiator.
